long weekend rant

Last unofficial weekend of summer and the seasons final rant....

Tp

Other than a few hot burst in SoCal it never quite felt like summer. Too overcast and too cool. It may mean we are in store for one hot September when those Santa Ana's kick in.......From all reports a much different experience back East. The NY Times reported it was the hottest summer on record. The average temperature was 77.8 degrees beating the previous high set in 2006 of 77.3. Excessive heat out East. Unusual chill out West. See, this climate change thing is nonsense. Tell the Tea Party-ers.......If you have nothing left to talk about, there is always the weather. Not a good sign for the future of this blog......

A little peak into the mindset of a certain bizarre, disenfranchised, misinformed and frighteningly vocal section of our fellow American citizens. Or, should I say fellow white people. This is courtesy of the real life modern day Howard Beale aka Glenn Beck. It would be wildly humorous if it wasn't so scary. On the flip side, I sympathize with their frustration just not their ignorance.....

Tom Scharpling, comedy writer extraordinaire, can add music video director to his resume. He is interviewed by Pitchfork about his recent efforts on a clip for Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. In the last question he speaks creating an homage to the indie videos directed by Phil Morrison back in the day. Well deserved praise. Watching the video and reading the quote brought back some good memories. Thanks, Tom for the piece. Thanks, Phil for the experiences.........

Oh yeah, here's the video....

Two weeks ago I posted a Roger Federer "trick" shot from a Gillette web film. I'm not Roger Federer obsessed but I had to post this shot from his first round US Open match. Make sure to check out his opponents expression.....

Jonathan Gordon turned me on this crazy artist who makes sculptures on top of lead pencil tips. He does this without the aid of a magnifying glass. All by eye and hand. Also, he won't sell his work.....

Dana went grocery shopping at the Von's in a strip mall in Oxnard. She saw Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and Nirvana fame in the produce section. It made me question whether Oxnard will become our annual summer retreat. I thought we were trying to escape the celebrity playground of the Hamptons......

Screen shot 2010-09-02 at 10.31.09 PM I downloaded iTunes 10 to check out Ping. It's the new social networking site brought to you from our good friends at Apple. I haven't started playing around yet. Is this the final stake in the heart of MySpace. Competition for Facebook? Is their a finite number of social networking sites the community can absorb? I guess I should check out what the early adapters are saying......

The tech wars really are on. Apple, Google, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft, are all fighting for world net domination. There is a good book in there somewhere.....Speaking of books I just finished Sarah Silverman's "Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption and Pee". Laugh out loud funny. Even if your not a fan.....

I'm starting Jonathan Franzen's latest book, "Freedom". I pre-ordered it so it will go right into my iPad when it was released. First time I ever did that. I was a big fan of "The Corrections" so was eager to read his follow up. It only took him 7 years between books. I guess there goes that idea of me writing my great American novel.....

Since I welcomed summer 2010 with a rant featuring Jonathan Richman's "Summer Feeling", I'll usher it out with another appropriate tune and a personal favorite. Enjoy the long weekend....05 A Summer Wasting
